Lettuce are doing quite nicely now – looking like miniature versions at the moment but I am guessing they will scale up a little as they are only around 2 inches in diameter (birds eye view).

Here is a pic, if anyone actually reads this please comment and let me know how much longer roughly they will take to be edible? Problem is I have no idea when they are ready. I suppose I just wait until they look like the ones in the supermarket hehe.

Anyway, so far no real insect attacks to report, and the sunny weather combined with a few showers seems to have done them a world of good so all in all – I am feeling rather proud of myself with this being my first attempt!

I will update the blog again when they look edible with some pics and hopefull the sprouts will be looking a little better by then, because they seem to be growing in a very strange way but hey – I’m new to this so I will just go with the flow!!!

Take care,

Dawn.

Just noticed the first vegetables I have planted from seed have sprouted today, I think the nice few weeks of weather we’ve had has really sped things up and really wasn’t expecting it to happen so fast. A few sprouts have just surfaced as shown in the pic opposite.

It’s so satisfying to see, really – I just hope I can bring myself to eat them! Poor babies.

That said, my husband loves sprouts on his roast dinner so it wont be a problem getting those used up – I just better get a few gas masks in ready for when they come out the other side!

Lettuce Seedlings

In the other pic, you can see very early stages of lettuce seedlings popping up but I hear they grow very fast so should have something better to show next week I hope.

I will keep you posted!

You will see a wide variety in the picture I have scanned in and should be enough to feed me and my family for some time.

What does worry me though is if all these veggies will last long enough for us to eat it, and will the new batch I put in after I remove this lot be ready in time to enable me to be self sufficient. We will see eh, this is the fun part learning and planning. I am so excited!!!

Watch this space for when the veggie area is prepared for the planting!!
